Hey! What is the student loan thing your doing? I totally fucking agree with this. I am trying to start up my own company and really do something with my college education for myself and can barely afford to do so because i have student loans threatening to take me down every month. Its a huge block in the road to success if you ask me. Tell me more about how you got into this??

Hey Chris,

Well I just had this brainstorm over the weekend. I got really pissed off because I make a nice salary and I can barely afford to eat half the time because of my student loan payments. I went online to search for answers, and it seemed a lot of people were out there griping but there wasn’t a lot of actual help to be found.

So I decided… if I can get people to join up to a site, and donate even a few dollars we can start helping each other out. Imagine if we get 10,000 people signed up and they each donate 5 dollars a month – that could save a student per month from 10 years of interest payments!

So I am trying this idea out to see if we can get it to work.

If you come to the website, you can share your story and become eligible to receive donations. Right now, I am working on collecting the stories of students on the website and getting people signed up to the cause on Facebook. I am working right now on starting the non-profit organization to collect the funds for distribution with the IRS.

Once I have that in place, I am going to start asking for donations from people in large amounts (and once we have large numbers of people in the Cause).

So what do you think? I think its good for Karma…..and its utilizing my skills (computers, the internet, programming, and being a social butterfly) in the best way possible!

I really need to start getting the word out to everyone to join the Cause and to share their stories.

Mike

Mike! This sounds fucking amazing. I know almost all of my friends here in NY are struggling to scrape pocket change just to eat because they are so in debt. I will start to spread the word for you around here. I think this is an fantastic idea, and who better to do it!

Are You Struggling To Meet Your Student Debt Payments?

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

We are here to help.   The main purpose of this site is to unite donors with students who are falling behind in their payments, struggling to make ends meet in this recession, and are finding themselves backed into a corner by loan companies who are acting indifferent towards them.

All you have to do to qualify is share your story  !  You will automatically be put on our list of recipients for funding split equally among all struggling students.

We have a campaign going on Facebook to recruit members to our cause, and we will be using them to organize a fund raiser for each student!

Join us now on Facebook at http://apps.facebook.com/causes/175267?recruiter_id=1973124

Why We Are Doing This

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Dear Everyone,

I am a graduate of the American education system, and I am mad as hell.  My family came to America as immigrants this century.  My father and mother labored to start lives here for themselves and for their family.  They raised us to live on meager funds, and to never want for anything material.  However, they raised their children to pursue college educations as a way for us to be better than the generation before.  They engrained in us that education would separate us, and allow us to pursue the American Dream that they had moved thousands of miles from their homeland to give to their children.

I, like everyone else graduating in the past decade, have seen the cost of American education rise drastically and yet suffered cutbacks to our federal funding.  Many of us had to turn to private lending to fill in the gaps, or leave school.

I have heard the cry of students that are drowning in student debt, and I think there must be a better way.  This is America, and we just had Barack Obama use the internet in a way that proved that as a community, we are one and united to make things right when they are wrong.

  • I believe that we can get the word out about this website.
  • I believe that we can all donate what we can to help bail out students.
  • I believe that we can help students who are suffering under the weight of huge student loans.
  • I believe that students need to express their stories and be heard.

Therefore, I ask that everyone participates and brings this new concept to fruition with me.  I plan on collecting donations to disseminate out to any student that share their story with us.  All stories submitted will be posted to the blog – be passionate, be honest, and be united that you are not alone in your suffering.

Thank you.
